Genting Trip, Gohtong Jaya

When one thinks of Genting, the descriptions that can be appropriately used to describe would be gambling, theme parks and BAD FOOD. Well at least that's what I thought of as to be honest Genting has really bad reputation for over priced food yet that is not up to expectation. The only food that is reliable would be the fast foods and the buffet at Hotel Genting.

To really enjoy some piping good hot food, I would really recommend travelling down to Gohtong Jaya if you have transportation. Really worth the 15 minutes drive as the food there is really really good; and most importantly CHEAP if compared to the peak. We visited Restoran Chuan Kie; really recommended as I felt it's even better than most of the shops here in KL.

Restoran Chuan Kie is located at the mid stretch of Gohtong Jaya's street.

Fried Pork Belly Slices (RM15). I noticed every table has this dish; and being a new eater here I reluctantly ordered this. Very crispy and gives a good bite with the combination of lean and fatty part. Literally, it starts with a very crispy bite and slowly melts in the mouth. Really recommended this to be eaten as beer snacks or on it's own.

Fried Eggplant (RM8) was good enough with plenty garlic for the aroma itself. I like eggplants that are fried with the skin intact for a better texture.

We also ordered a serving of Salted Vegetable Soup (RM6). Really worth for a price tag like this as the quantity is more than enough for both of us. Slightly sour and salty just like how mom makes it.

A complete meal for the both of us came up to RM32.40; which roughly divides to RM15. Cheaper yet so much more satisfied than dining at the peak!

Spotted a durian stall outside and we bought one for RM11 to be shared as desert as durian season was around. Totally bloated!

Chuan Kee was so good that we decided to return back for lunch on the next day. We opted to try for some fried noodles as we noticed a few tables enjoying some varieties of it.

Singapore Fried Mee Hun (RM6) was our choice . We ordered a one pax portion to be shared; it's really good and full of 'wok hei', the very essential part of any fried noodles. The noodles was fluffy and aromatic; possibly winning most of the stalls here back in KL. Embarrassing, but true enough.

We were hook on to the family styled soup last night, and decided to try out the Seaweed Soup (RM6). As expected, it's really heart warming with generous amounts of seaweed and pork in it. Sweet!

A simple lunch of noodles + soup costs us only RM12.60, for the both of us!

We headed to Yik Kee whom are famous for their durian products; for some souvenirs and treats. Yik Kee is located a few shop towards the end of the one way road nearby Chuan Kie. The best items there would be their durian tarts and durian cakes. Didn't spot any cakes on that particular day, though.

Durian Tarts (RM1.50 - 2.xx per tart - sorry, couldn't really remember the exact price). We bought 1 and 1/2 dozen; and it was good. Sweet, but not too overwhelming with very soft texture. I'm sure it will taste twice as good if were purchased right after baking.

Yik Kee also has a branch at Taman Tun Doktor Ismail (TTDI) which also sells the same food and durian products. However, an added bonus purchasing at Gohtong Jaya's branch is the durian ice cream! At RM2.00 a pop, the durian ice cream is really smooth and strong as it's made of real durian flesh. Slurping the durian ice cream and enjoying the cold weather was really a indescribable experience!

All in all, the Genting Trip was extremely fun; with the addition of good food that is totally unexpected. Honestly, I didn't really put much hope into the food but was totally rewarded with such good choices. We had alot of fun slow walking, enjoying time pass by and also some *ka-ching* casino time during the night.

The girlfriend trying her shot at pool.

Very serious when it come's to pool and snooker. But well, the pool tables at Genting is CRAP although it's super cheap.

Our sinful meal of fast foods right after chec. 1 kg, 2kg, 3kg ... Oh no.

A brief visit to the Strawberry Park at Gohtong Jaya. Entrance is free.

Mushroom cubicles area. My family runs a mushroom distributing business and we get 1/2 of our stocks here. Contact me for prices! *grins*

Strawberry ice popsicle. Sweet, and in fact too sweet that I couldn't finish even half of it. Nice though with real strawberry seeds.

With my new found food friends, Genting has totally opened up a new perspective to me. Can't wait to go back for the.. well, food. Hehe till then, Happy Eating!!

Been to this horrible Mu Ching Restaurant.. Food is lousy and local staff's service is horrendous. Requested to add more soup for the 3rd time and was rejected saying that they only allow to top up only once but to our surprise, the staff came back to our table without a warning and DUMPED 2-3 spoonful of soup from a bowl. That action is like pouring waste water into our BKT which we have not finish eating.
