Restoran Jin Xuan Hong Kong / Kam Hin, Kuchai Lama

I think the best dim sum around Klang Valley can be found in Kuchai Lama (so grateful for so many good foods around my area). Went around to Jin Xuan Hong Kong (previously named as Kam Hin before renovating) on a very fine morning to have breakfast. So to start off, I find this dim sum place offers a very large variety of dim sums - made up of the traditional ones and some exotic self created ones (a few that we felt interesting but didn't tried due to being too early are such as Scallop Shrimp Dumplings, Green Mussels Cheese-Mai, Siu Long Bao). To be honest, the price of the dim sums here are a little expensive than the usual places, but the size and the quality really made up to it.

Stuffed Brinjal (RM3.00). Very crispy outer skin with good crispy stuffed fish. I enjoyed this the most.

Mixed Steam Rice Roll / Chee Cheong Fan (RM4.80). Very smooth, and the cheong fan here are not cut ala Hong Kong style. The prawns are a bit small though.

Har Gao (RM 4). Very large prawns and nice smooth skin wraps. Very good skills can be seen as the skin wouldn't break easily when held with the chopsticks.

Fried Yam and Char Siew Fritters / Wu Kok (RM4.50). Was served warm and I felt the filling was generous and creamy enough.

Wrapped Prawns / Har Guen (RM4.50).

Salad Prawns (RM4.50). I prefer this one then the Har Guen, mainly because of the crispy skin. The fillings though are the same with large sliced prawns.

Lao Sar Pau (RM3.50). Combination of kaya and salted egg yolk was good enough for me, though not really a big fan of it.

The storage section to keep dim sums warm.

So happy la after meal =D

A meal for both of us cost RM35.00 including a pot for tea for 2 pax, which I think quite pricy. However, the dim sums are pretty recommended as this is what you pay for more premium and quality assured dim sums.

The renovated shop with much comfortable seatings and air conditioned shop lots. Parking is still much a hassle here though so be sure to come here early. I also noticed that Kam Hin actually opens till wee hours at night - around 2am.

Win Soon Cafe, Kuchai Lama

One of the arguably good food that can be found in Kuchai Lama would be the famous Win Soon Cafe's Fish Head Noodles. The shop here in Kuchai Lama has made up it's reputation and got fame from TV shows like Ho-Chak! I felt Win Soon serves one of the best, if not the best fish head noodles around here.

Like any soup based noodles, the Fish Head Noodles (RM7.50) has very sweet soup. Added with some carnation milk, the dish is turned into a thick and rich based soup with just enough mixture of (minimal)sourness and saltiness with the additions of tomatoes and preserved salted vegetables. The soup is also dosed with huge amount of Chinese cooking wine, in fact I think the version here at Win Soon's wins in terms of smell alone due to the wine.

The fish here is also worth mentioning; whereby around roughly 5 pieces are given. I even spotted quite a lot of patrons ordering just the fried fish head alone. What makes the fried fish head here stands out from the others is their ability to marinate and coat the fish in a way that the fish outside remains crispy, yet the flesh being so tender. Often, what you get from normal stalls are just simply deep fried fishes, where the flesh tends to get dry and tough. You can also opt for fish paste, which I recommend too. I always go for the fish head and fish paste combination.

The drinks here are however very disappointing. They all felt very 'fake' to me, like from some mixture or syrup. It's just me anyway as I felt they were too sweet. Seen here is the Honey Coconut (RM3.50) and the Honey Lemon (RM2.50).

Win Soon is located at the corner of Jalan Kuchai Lama Maju 9, located just a few shops away from Jojo Little Kitchen. Easily spotted with the red colour themed restaurant exterior.

A meal for both of us cost us around RM 22.05. Pretty ok considering the big bowl of noodles.

I also spotted Win Soon's branch in Puchong; and I've heard that they are currently expanding. Also, Win Soon's brother's branch is located in Happy Garden's Wai Sik Kai (name of shop forgotten), but it's in a coffee shop located at the end of that one way street. They serve the same style and the taste is pretty much similar too!

La Casa, Desa Park City (The Waterfront), Kuala Lumpur

Mr.Moo, one of my very good friend wanted to held a birthday dinner and asked my opinion for a venue. Fitou Brasserie at The Waterfront, Desa Park City immediately came to my mind as I had previously went there with the girlfriend for some drinks and the atmosphere there is extremely good to chill out. The initial plan was to have dinner and chill out later - plan failed anyhow, lol. World Cup was on, and it was extremely crowded. Anyway, I picked La Casa for the dinner venue; which is located just a few stores away from Fitou Brasserie mainly because I have heard and read some good reviews about the food there. Also, the dining place is much more suitable for the 10+ pax of us as it is not that crowded.

The girlfriend and I shared a Pizza Pepperoni (RM20.90 - Small (9"), RM30.90 - Large (12")) as we were headed from elsewhere and was still full. Thin crusted and very rich melted cheese on top on the first glance made my day honestly. The pepperonis are also very good with very chewy and beefy flavors topped with parsley.

My other friends shared a Pizza Quattro Stagioni (RM30.90 - only Large(12")). Apparently, the pizza is named so because it has four different toppings placed on each quarter of the pizza. I tasted a piece from the quarter where it has some black olive and cheese; not bad! Taken from the menu, the type of toppings you would find is massive: tuna, black olive, onions, turkey ham, pineapple, white button mushrooms, tomatoes, pepperoni and mozzarella cheese. Phew.

Spaghetti alla Carbonara (RM19). I noticed that the spaghetti is creamy enough yet not too over powering and has bacon and mushroom bits in it. My friend gave this dish a thumbs up. Lol, you couldn't really go wrong with pizzas and pasta in an Italian restaurant in my opinion.

Cheese Baked Chicken (RM28). One word describes this dish: CHEESY. The whole chicken breast is coated with cheese and oven-baked. Extremely recommended for cheese lovers.

Oven Baked Fish (RM32). Looks extremely healthy to me. According to the menu, the butterfish fillet is pan seared and oven baked. That explains the firm flesh yet crispy skin that I saw on my friend's plate. The fish also comes with some mashed potato and saute spinach.

Black Pepper Steak (RM45). The birthday boy ordered the grilled tenderloin. I liked how their practice of to include the separate black pepper sauce to not spoil the natural taste of the beef. No offense, but in my humblest opinion, I still felt that the best place to get steaks are from steakhouses that specializes (which explains why I never ordered any steak if I'm not in a steakhouse; mainly because I don't trust. I take my steak very seriously, lol). Nevertheless, the birthday boy gave this a thumbs up and I could see he enjoyed his every bite of the steak.

Mr. Moo and his err.. moo carcass.

Also noted that La Casa offers quite a range of cakes, but unfortunately was too full to have desert that day. The price of a slice starts from RM7.90; pretty affordable.

The girlfriend.

La Casa's shop front area. The alfresco dining area is also quite cozy with comfy semi lean chairs.

Some group pictures that I'm able to salvage from my camera:
'Perfect' gigolos for rent.

The Legendary Four Aces (Sei Dai Choi Ji / 四大才子).

Lovebirds - Win Hou and Su Yee with the birthday boy.

Me and the girlfriend with the birthday boy. I don't know why are we both holding our own other hand, lol.

The total bill for the 10+ pax of us. Ouch.

Last but not least, a little too late but, Happy Birthday Mr.Moo! Hope you enjoyed the dinner and the group accompaniment.

Sekinchan Pork Noodles, Restoran 898, Taman Indah Perdana, Kepong

I just love to travel and hunt for food places that I have never heard before or never seen reviews; mainly because of the curious feeling to try. Well, on a very fine day me n the girlfriend was heading to Kepong for her dental appointment. While waiting for her friend we stopped and headed randomly to a coffee shop for breakfast.

The pork noodles looks good as I've seen majority of the customers are having it. The rule of thumb to order good food when going to some place new is to observe what other customers are having, lol.

In my opinion, this version of Pork Noodles (RM3.80) which doesn't feature sweet pork soup must have their own selling point. I found the noodles here - ordered hor fun, very smooth and blends well with the very tasty minced pork. Also the sausage slices are very up to par with very good filling. The pork cakes, well are okay as I know most of them are factory made. One very good point that I've felt is their very fragrant pork oil that is drizzled on top. Makes the noodles extra slippery and tasty.

Ordered the Yam Cake (RM 2) as the girlfriend does not want something tat is too heavy that early. The yam cake on the other hand is very disappointing, being not very fragrant and too mushy to my liking.

All in all I felt Restoran 898 is another coffee shop that must not be missed when passed by. I've observed locals who are very close to the shop owners while having my meal, which means this shop is loved by locals alike.
