Kitchen Creatures, Centrepoint, Petaling Jaya

Been actually hearing raves about Kitchen Creatures way before I even started this blog; mainly for it's no frills dining motto. Best of all, the interior and menu stated clearly that no tax included; which is good news to us consumers! Truly though, they did stick to their no frills dining motto, expect cheap prices for suffice portions I would say. Nevertheless, taste quality are assured even with the given price tag, just don't expect fancy seating or fancy services. This place remains special to me as I spent my family here for dinner with my first paycheck. Hehe.

For starters, we ordered 2 portions of Monster Platter (RM15) - which comes with fried shrimps, calamari rings, fried button mushrooms, mini chicken wings and nachos. I like the juicy fried button mushrooms and nachos the best - extra good when dipped in dipping sauce! I felt this was a steal at RM15 for so many varieties of appetizers. Definitely the cheapest!

We ordered a Pizza Carbonara (RM13), and it does really live up to it's name - creamy, cheesy and the most important of all in terms of serving creamy stuff, piping hot! Price wise? No explanation needed, lol.

Creamy and cheesy.. slurps.

My mom, being a poultry fan all along, ordered the Grilled Chicken (RM13). For that price tag, I was expecting some hammer-bashed-flatten grilled chicken, but wow, what was served was a whole chicken thigh intact. Fresh chicken was used and it was really juicy on it's own, with minimal sauce. Thumbs up!

The Bacon Carbonara (RM 11) was pretty good -with rich cream and really great to bite bacons. Portions are rather healthy, but it would be better if they are more generous with the portion given the price tag.

My sister ordered the Ribeye Steak (RM 19), and she absolutely loved it to the last bite. I had a few bite and loved it for it's medium rare texture. She paired her steak with mushroom sauce, from one of the many sauces available - brown sauce, garlic butter, mushroom or bbq sauce. I still prefer my steak without any sauces for that perfect natural juice. Served with a small side of spaghetti and mixed veges.

My dad is both a lamb lover, and a very picky eater. Nevertheless, thank god that this place passed in his book of eatery. The Grilled Lamb Chop (RM 17) is really huge in portion and also can be served in either any of the 3 sauces - brown sauce, mint or their signature chili lime cilantro glaze. Like the steak, it comes with a small side of spaghetti and mixed veges.

I picked the Classic Fish & Chips (RM 12). I felt this was not good enough, with too thick batter and the fish's cut was not really smooth enough to be cooked via frying. I think it's much safer to stick to their grilled food.

The Monsterised Burger (RM 13) was humongous! A fully wide opened mouth is needed to chomp in one whole bite of savory burger buns, real chicken/beef patties, pickles, onion rings, lettuce tomato, chicken ham, beef bacon, cheese and a fried egg! Orgasmic for a burger lover! Do try to bite all of the stuff in a bite to enjoy the mixed texture, and flavor!

If u think the Monsterised Burger is huge enough, wait till you see the Big Daddy Monster Burger (RM 18) in live! Practically, every good stuff of the Monsterised Burger is doubled up, all sticked via a skewer, and there you have it! Will gladly pay that price for a huge ass burger which is way much cheaper than some puny burgers at high end places.

Phew, I'm glad I made an extra effort in bringing my family here for dinner; seeing that I'm able to sample so many good stuffs! Will definitely return here! The total bill, as I vaguely remember was around RM200 for the 7 of us. Pretty reasonable I would say.

Food Foundry, SS17, Petaling Jaya

Hidden well within flat areas, Food Foundry is surprisingly comfy and quiet enough as it's actually situated below a flat residential area. I had actually already heard about the raves of this place for it's famous Mille crêpe, which was exceptionally good and hard to be found in KL. We opted for this place to celebrate one of my friend, Kong Chian's birthday for it's comfy environment.

I arrived the earliest, and ordered a cup of Cappucino (RM5.50) while waiting for them to arrive. The coffee was good, being foamy and creamy enough.

Food Foundry Chicken Chop (RM16), sitting on top a bed of mash and comes with veges on the side.

Aglio Olio with Prawns (RM18). I had a bite of it and I felt it's a bit dry. But from what I heard from my friend, the prawn was fresh, which I think could make up for it.

My Pan-Fried Dory with Cream Sauce (RM15). Initially, I thought the dory would come with loads of sauce as per what I had usually, and I smartly ordered a basket of bread for RM2. Was really disappointed when it arrived as I couldn't mop up excessive sauces with the bread at the end. Taste wise, it was really just ok, I had better ones.

Carbonara (RM17). Didn't get to sample this, but it looks good visually, flooded with cream and cheese. No complains from my friend, so it should be ok!

Our overall bill came up to RM88.50. Pretty reasonable for a night out of casual dinner.

My opinion, Food Foundry is really good for what it's famous for, their deserts. I would stick to just deserts should I return, as I felt their food items are really just so-so. It's not that it's bad, it's just that I had tasted better ones within that price range. Still, their Mille Crepes are really good and worth the journey, but do try to come early for the deserts as I heard the consistency of freshness really drops on more quiet days.

Some guy whore personal shots of the day.

The emo birthday boy and his partner.

Kelvin. He insisted for a shot like this.

Sam Win Hou. So...

Mr. Boss. Why so serious?

Betty's Kitchen, Aman Suria Damansara

Way before I started this blog, I have already heard lot's of very good comment on Betty's, whom boasts to serve real and authentic Midwest American food. What's even more surprising is the cheap price tag; which is something you usually can't associate with when dining better par western food here in Malaysia. I'm a very huge burger fan myself, and the sight of a good, real, juicy patty burger is like Beethoven to my ears, da Vinci to my eyes, and ..you get what I mean. A burger is really a simple sandwich, but the simplicity and preparation is what really makes it so enjoyable yet tasty. I've read alot and from what I've ressearched, Betty's burger are really special on their own as they are also Non-Halal, and they do have pork and beef burgers, or a combination of both in a patty. Sounds really interesting!

I had the Root Beer Float (RM6.50), which I totally failed to decode what origin and brand of root beer is this. Topped with a vanilla ice cream, the root beer is so different from what I had drank in cans or A & W outlets. The root beer is smoother, not so gassy but tastier. I just have to decode this the next time by asking them! Anyway, a nice cool 'sinful' root beer float is perfect to go with your 'sinful' burger meal ! I call it a cheat meal, haha.

The girlfriend is not really a burger fan, and opted for something not so messy. Home Style Macaroni and Cheese (RM 15) is different from what I had expected with breadcrumbs sprinkled all on top. I for one, think it's over baked resulting in the cheese being lumpy and sticks into large pieces of macaroni + cheese. The breadcrumbs do add some texture into it. I'm not sure if it's their style back there, but I think I prefer the old school melted cheese and macaroni combination more.

The star of the night, Jucy Lucy (RM13.50). What did I say about cheap? Burgers like these usually cost twice the price in other restaurants! What makes Jucy Lucy so special is that the patty combines both pork, and beef and grilled medium rare. On top of that, cheese are also stuffed inside, which results in melted cheese oozing out with every bite. Words couldn't just explain the joy of having one good burger that the chef knows what's he/she is preparing. The burgers here are served in a basket and comes with thick cut fries.

Closer shot of the burger. Average-huge size patty but juicy (somehow, this picture just seems wrong to me). Besides Jucy Lucy, Betty's also serve other interesting burgers like the Pulled Pork Burger (fork pulled pork patty) , Sloppy Joe (ground pork), and the traditional Cheeseburger (grilled beef and pork combination); all for a very low and reasonable price!

We also placed an order on a dish that caught our attention, the "Dog Food". Interesting name, and I could see every table has at least one side order of "Dog Food". It's actually oven cooked fries drenched in gravy and topped with cheeses. Sounds as sinful as ever. Unfortunately, that dish was forgotten by the waiter but it's ok as we were already over stuffed by our mains!

The bill came up to RM43.25 for the both of us. Pretty affordable for such great food.

Betty's environment is pretty cozy, with average size place. Being a no-frill American dining place, I would definitively come back again for other burgers, not forgetting the price vs quality is totally unbelievable! Betty's is closed on Monday, and opens from Tues- Sun in 2 sessions, which are 11.30am - 3pm; and 5.30pm - 1opm. Last calls are at 9.30pm.
